We have received grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Ephesians 4:7 By faith we have access into this “gift of Christ” wherein we stand. Romans 5:2 This “gift of Christ,” in us,  equals the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27 The life that we now live in the flesh, we live by the faith of the Son of God…Gal 2:20 Herein is our love made perfect, because as He is so are you in this world. 1 John 4:17 Paul said this in Colossians 3:4 “Christ, who is our life.” And again, “for me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 Is Christ the source of everything we do in life? As a born again believer, yes. We are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Friends, we want to think in these terms, “without Him we can do…

Like a River dam or lock, We must manage the flow of grace. This includes That flow coming into our house, and then the flow going out. This is our stewardship . This is spoken of in 1 Peter 4:10  “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I must first learn how to receive grace, but not in vain. Grace “received” is accepting something which I do not deserve. Can you do it? `Pride can inhibit this action. Many, many speakers, leaders, church members, choir singers, administrators or faculty cannot receive grace. Unsaved folks balk at grace often. The reason?  Grace is based never on the receiver, but rests in the open hand of the Giver, God Himself. It all depends on the vicarious atonement of Christ. Precious people look inward and discover…

“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,  Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” Job 38:1-2 “How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily?” Psalm 13:2 “O my God, my soul is cast down within me:” Psalm 42:6 “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?” Psalm 42:6 “lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death — hope thou in God.” There are four characteristics of a person who hides in their self counsel. First, they live in self-preservation. Secondly, a person who is hiding in Adam lives in self-defense mechanisms. The third characteristic  is self-absorption. Fourth, self-occupation According  to Dr. Carl H. Stevens, founder of Greater Grace Church in  Baltimore Md. these 4 characteristics progress in the self-counseled soul. The self-absorbed become distracted and blinded to God’s viewpoint and…

“The Lord cannot fully bless a man until He has first conquered him.” —The call to nearness enables the resistance of worldly temptation.” A.W. Tozer  We surrender when conquered, we yield when broken, we capitulate when exhausted; we “cease from our own works.” Ironically, a faith begins here, and also a hope, and also love. As the project stalemates we find contentment with the Project Manager. His presence defines our new beginning; He-in-us becomes hope-of-glory. His nature in us describes love. Oddly enough,  finding Him and losing me arrive simultaneously. My dreams dash, my visions smash, my  passivity or enterprise collapses and burns. Will breaks now, resolve buries, conscience bears hampering, and  emotions buck comfort.  Rational explanations hide, we concede. As children we wrestled with my Dad for fun. He would pin us down and cry out, “give up?” We would  squirm only to be pinned again. “Give up?” Finally, we got tired, pinned the last time;…

When a balloon bursts it lays flat but first it shoots as a rocket. Air escaping propels it horizontally till finally the balloon lays dead. Shape, buoyancy and bright color gone;  a major tear shows apparent. Air will never re-inflate this bag of latex again. Is this a valid life-metaphor? A sharp pointed devise does the bursting. A harsh word? — Derogatory remark? — Evil report or unwanted news? Our hearts grimace, but not air-borne — rather toward people,  circumstances,  any avenue to blame or receive consolation. “Help, I’m going down quickly.” “People with broken hearts have one thing in common—having expectations of other people. Having expectations of how someone else is supposed to act, feel, think, speak and behave. If you never want to experience a broken heart, eliminate all expectations from your relationships.”” Norrington… Truth, but a stoic existence is healing? — where’s the hope? “Part of the pain of a…

We live through heart-ache to be forever joined with Christ, intimately. Sin represents a dis-jointing, a dis-fellowship; pain sobers a saint toward what is real — our humanness –our unbelief – our disablement – our depravity. in our confrontation of reality, His true nature waxes clear, yet it comes unexpectedly. Mixed in our intensified sedation, comes His intensified compassion. Our little faith, even abject unbelief, renders His with-abiding love most precious. Our unworthiness apparent, compassions’ fire is seen ablaze in heaven’s eyes – our conditions-filled soul is superseded by His unconditional Being. The contrast is striking. Suffering does this: 1 delivers from idealism 2 delivers from law-following 3 delivers from our self-orientation 4 delivers from fear of death and dying 5 delivers from unbelief Idealism says “ideas or thoughts, (in themselves), make up basic truth.” Nevertheless, “if reason, (Idealism) were to say that all its conclusions are determined by…

Will God wait for me? I am very slow to change; so slow that I doubt His patience will last. I’m stuck in myself and though I try, I cannot find release. My heart deceives me, time and time again. I will not try much anymore. Does God love the weak and frail? Does God love the poor and lame? Does He love the self-deceived? God waited for Gomer. She was finally done, worn out, hoping to die, of little worth. All of her “lovers” abandoned her for lack of use; they were in it for themselves. Then God said, “She is valuable to me, go and purchase her.” He spoke comfortably with her. Nobody wondered about her sincerity. There were no promises from her. “Sincerity” was one lover who ran away. Elijah had had enough. He ran from Jezebel’s threat, and wanted to die. The shame of simply quitting…

The Mirriam Webster dictionary describes an identity crisis as “A feeling of unhappiness and confusion caused by not being sure of what type of person you really are or what the true purpose of your life is.” The Free dictionary says it this way; “A psychosocial state or condition of disorientation and role confusion occurring especially in adolescents as a result of conflicting internal and external experiences, pressures and expectations  and often producing acute anxiety” Theorist Erik Erikson coined the term “identity crisis.” He said “it is a time of intensive analysis and exploration of different ways of looking at oneself.” He described “identity” as: …a subjective sense as well as an observable quality of personal sameness and continuity, paired with some belief in the sameness and continuity of some shared world image.” James Marcia said, “The balance between identity and confusion lies in making a commitment to an…

Parliament on the River On Easter comes Resurrection, although, the day may bring to a close an unimaginable period of pain in hardship, dying, burial. These are the extremes, the unexpected, the unexplained which lead up; the stuff which perplexes, shames, incapacitates. These take the limelight away from all former challenges of any sort; they ravage the mind, annihilate the soul, blow out of the proverbial water, and throw for a total loop. Have we seen them? They are not every day occurrences but may have found us. Our prayer is for God’s delicate help when it happens. Speaking hypothetically, prior to undergoing deep present distresses, life for most had a certain capacity, a confident bent, a sure system, a reliable set of rules, and a precise level of weightiness. This private, methodical, safety-network involved and normalized our coping with stress, our adapting to situations, our equilibrium protecting, our buoyancy…

I and the Holy Spirit become inseparable when we two walk together agreed, for it is in Psalm 36:9 that “in thy, (His), light we see light.” In 2 Corinthians 4:6 we find these words; “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” In Proverbs 4:18 this light progresses in its illumination, and the succession sanctifies us as we go. Now, light and forward movement both, take the “one time” sanctification of our soul, and unfold the glory of it to us in a process. So, we are set apart unto God, once and for all at salvation and the unfolding revelation to us of this fact takes us closer to its truth in a practical realization. We walk in a moment by moment…
