Eternity

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish…” John 10:28

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:”
“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? John 11:26

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called…”1 Timothy 6:12

“…and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12B

Have we transferred eternity into our profession? Do we believe eternity? Timothy did. Do we profess eternity?

In an article called “Seeking eternal life, silicon-valley is solving for death,” https://qz.com/  we read:

“For years now, the luminaries of Silicon Valley have been putting their minds, money, and machines behind an all-out effort to solve for death. Full of futurists who don’t have enough time in the day to achieve their lofty goals, the Valley has long looked for ways to make those days never-ending. After all, there is just so much left to do (and so much money left to be made).”

“Larry Ellison, the eccentric co-founder of software conglomerate Oracle, donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to life-extension therapies every year.

“I don’t understand how someone can be here, then not be here,”

“In 2013, Bill Maris, the founding CEO of Google Ventures, Alphabet’s venture-capital arm, convinced CEO Larry Page and president Sergey Brin to launch Calico, Google’s billion-dollar, super-secret effort to cure aging. When asked why, Maris told The New Yorker that seeing his father die of a brain tumor changed him: “My thoughts can turn to dark things when I’m alone.” He, like so many, feared the end that awaits us all.”

Steven Wright quipped, “I intend to live forever. So far, so good.”

We humans cannot conceptualize living forever because we live time-bound. When Jesus came visiting His friend Lazarus, and raised him from death, He had to deal with the family’s dis-belief. However, Jesus raised him and later raised up Himself on Easter Sunday.

Fascinating stories? No, central truths of Christianity.

Romans 1:3-4 teaches “Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;  And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”

This passage teaches that Christ’s resurrection proves His deity. Aha! Deity must get involved.

Did you know?

  • 2 Timothy 1:10  teaches “… our Savior Jesus Christ …hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
  • Heb 2:14  teaches, …through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 teaches, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”

Death’s sting gone, death’s power destroyed, death itself abolished, we gain deliverance, victory, life and immortality.

A group called “Oasis” wrote a song called “Live Forever.” Here are some of the words.

Maybe I don’t really want to know
How your garden grows
‘Cause I just want to fly

Lately, did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain As it soaks you to the bone?

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live, I don’t want to die
Maybe I just want to breathe
Maybe I just don’t believe

Maybe you’re the same as me
We see things they’ll never see

You and I are gonna live forever
Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now’s the time to find out why

The song ends with;  “were gonna live forever” several times.

I hope theses writers have found the Christ. I fear that their cries, and the cries of the Silicon Valley group, and even Steven Wright, express a false hope from human despair. But, believers, be encouraged! Jesus said, “in the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.” Friends, because He lives we happily face tomorrow; lets tell the others. love ya
