We Know

John 8:31 -12 teaches us:

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. “

Sadly, others, in 2Timothy3:7 were:

” Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

New Testament writers faced falsehoods of all kinds. The subtlety of Gnosticism was addressed often by both Paul and John. Gnostic elites claimed to own “salvation by knowledge.” Their name which means, “good knowledge” implies this. .newadvent.org

“A gnostic learner entered a knowledge-path which would lead to a deeper knowledge which could not be attained to without the path, since indeed, the leaders had not even seen it in totality as of yet. So a gnostic is on a path of “knowing.” Of course there was some promise of a future “utopian” ideal which would rid the human race of it’s inherent disease, lack of knowledge. Mystery surrounds Gnostic thought, attracts the cosmically curious, who become a part of the “intelligentsia” of their day.” Paraphrase by me based on various studies.

John, in his first epistle has much to say about knowledge.

In 1John 1:2 we have “(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it…”)

Nothing hidden here. John continues:

“…and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) ” “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1Jn 1:2-4  And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. “

John is revealing to us a full joy now, a full manifestation now, a full fellowship now. Not a further revelation or deeper manifestation later, but a light which shines now, and we can “walk in the light “right now. In that light a communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and continual cleansing from all sin. 1 John 1:5-9

There’s more:

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments, (words). But whoso keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John 2:3 and 5

Sounds like we know Him right now, and keeping His words perfects His nature of love in us. Now

” the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”  1John 2:8

More?

“I write-unto you, little children, because your sins are (right now) forgiven you for his name’s sake.   I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. …” 1 John 2:13-14

” ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.  I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it,1Jn 2:20-21″

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God,” 1John 3:2 “ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. “1John 3:5 “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.”1John 3:14

“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:”  1Jn 4:2-3

John writes over and over about what we know, discerning falsehood, continuing in it, the benefits of it — as love and cleansing and the fellowship we enjoy with God Eternal and our brothers and sisters in Christ.

The mystery of it exists not, neither the worship of knowledge, which only brings pride

In closing, John continues:

1John 5:13  “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. “

“we know that he hears us, we have confidence in prayer. And we know that we are of God. We know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true,”

Beloved, we are loved, right now, and we know it. love ya
