Attitude-Pure Honey

From Merriam-Webster “attitude” is defined:

A. a mental position with regard to a fact or state — as a helpful attitude.

B. A feeling or emotion toward a fact or state– as a negative attitude — an optimistic attitude.

David prays a prayer for attitude, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

Preceding verses list:

  1. The law of the Lord
  2. the testimony of the Lord
  3. The statutes of the Lord
  4. the commandment of the Lord
  5. The fear of the Lord
  6.  the judgments of the Lord

And these, “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”

But if these are sweet, more so these,

James 2:12-13  “So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty …and mercy rejoices against judgment.”

Romans 6:14b  “… for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”

Galatians 3:25  “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.”

Friends, if the schoolmaster touched the mentality as honey, surely coming to Christ brings honey and the honeycomb.

Romans 5:20  furthers the thought,

“Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound.

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.”:

Romans 3:19  “Now we know that what things so ever the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Romans 3:20  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

Romans 4:15  “Because the law worketh wrath.”

Lets pause, The law was given that the offence would abound, mouths would be stopped, all would be guilty before God, having the knowledge of sin, leading to the wrath of God?

Nay,

it remains that the revelation of God through His Word brings the honey of proper attitude.

Psalm 19:11  “Moreover, by them is thy servant enlightened; in keeping them there is great reward.” Darby
Psalm 19:12  “Who distinguishes his errors? Purify me from secret (hiding) faults.

Beloved, God’s answers reside in His Word, yes, the exposing of my sinful attitude, whether barbaric malice or protective hiding. The presumption of blatant rebellion or the presumption of withdrawal into guilty self-effacement — both are wrong thinking. Bad attitude.

But there’s more in that Word.

Romans 6:2-7  “…We who have died to sin, how shall we still live in it?” “knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with him.” “For he that has died is freed from sin.”

And  6:8  Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,

Romans 6:11 then, “So also ye, reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. “

Knowing, believing, reckoning, the operative word is “dead. ” — this comprises the real honey! This describes the acceptable attitude!

And then, “Neither yield your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin,

“yield yourselves to God as alive from among the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God.” V. 12

To “yield” means to posture an attitude. Our honey and honeycomb with sweetness consists in “dead indeed to sin — alive unto God.”

In closing Samson found honey in the carcass of a lion. Picturing the crucified Savior, the most precious, glorious, sweetest savor poured forth from His death. Resurrection life, no more death, ascended living and authority in grace — these become our new attitude.”

Lastly, Hebrews 12:28 teaches, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

Hold grace friends, it’s your new attitude.  love ya
