Eve was the mother of all living.
Many years later, one of those “living,” Mary, became the mother of Christ — and the mother of all those living in truth. That truth, enduring for all generations, has seen many an opposing foe. However that truth cannot be extinguished, it marches on and on.
John, who had received the book of Revelation contained in our Bible, wept in chapter 5 at the prospect of a certain scroll, one held in God’s hand, going unopened. He wept at the possibility of truth stifled in time, reality extinguished for the redemption of mankind, past, present and future. But, in Revelation 6 a seal is opened of that scroll of heaven. The Lamb has prevailed to open the scroll, it’s seals are removed one by one.
Upon the opening of seal #1, “…behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. ” None other than the Christ, the Spirit, the Church, the white horse rider carries with him 2 Timothy 1:10, “He (Christ), hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” With the unfurling of this light our rider conquers. With the truth of resurrected life He conquers death. With truth He judges.
Reality proceeds with the next seal opened. It yields another horse. This one is fire red, and “…power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. “
Expositors comments, “… not between the righteous and the wicked, but among the wicked alone. The wicked slaughter one another. All persons engaged in these internecine conflicts have cast aside the offers of the Prince of peace; and, at enmity with Him who is the only true foundation of human brotherhood, they are also at enmity among themselves.”
Sown in the soul of a man a rejection, a separation, a breach; so comes a reaping of the same, a forsaking of trust, a desecration of truth, an odds with reality. Eve’s “living” are sentenced to die.
At the opening of the next seal, “lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. “
“A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”
With numerous interpretations perhaps, it seems like the false balances of wicked oversight are fit to reap economic calamity. The illumination of God’s reality again exposes the malignancy of corrupt hearts, godless self serving, greed — the love of money is the root of all evil.”
Fourth, yet another horse,
“behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”
J.F.B comments, “with the four judgments here, the sword, famine, pestilence, and wild beasts; the famine the consequence of the sword; pestilence, that of famine; and beasts multiplying by the consequent depopulation.
His truth is marching on. The reaping of evil continues.
Then another seal opens:
I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? “
“Even the spirits of just men made perfect retain a proper resentment of the wrong they have sustained by their cruel enemies; and though they die in charity, praying, as Christ did, that God would forgive them, yet they are desirous that, for the honor of God, and Christ, and the gospel, and for the terror and conviction of others, God will take a just revenge upon the sin of persecution, even while he pardons and saves the persecutors.” Matthew Henry
Friends, before the great earthquake at seal six, white robes are distributed to the saints. They are told to rest for a while. Nevertheless, His truth is marching on, glory, hallelujah. Love ya
