Because life is a narrow way, few find it. Mostly a broader way finds a person, and many are defiled thereby. It leads to destruction. Proverbs 22:5 teaches that thorns and thistles await such, and verse 8 tells us that abject nothingness rewards the sower of emotional rebellion.
For wide is the gate โ easily entered, and broad is the way โ easily trodden. “Enter ye in at the strait gate โ as if hardly wide enough to admit one at all. This expresses the difficulty of the first right step …involving, as it does, a triumph over all our natural inclinations.” JFB on Matthew 7:13
The one road caters to ease and self-indulgence, the other bends to eternal safety. The narrow way involves an intense “keeping” of one’s soul — a hedging about with protection. Proverbs 22:5
In Luke 13:24 Jesus teaches, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate.” Agonize, yes ‘contend’ toward this entrance. Brothers and sisters, we are to seek for it as for fine silver, and search for her as for hid treasures. (Proverbs 2:4). In our seeking we shall find. In all of our getting, please get wisdom.
Consider, my friends, the blood of the Lamb. ” the nation of Israel was chosen to be God’s people. Through them, he would reveal to every nation on earth his nature of mercy, goodness, loving kindness, long-suffering, and forgiveness. In God’s plan, Israel spent many years in captivity in Egypt under cruel taskmasters. God saw their affliction, heard their cry, and knew their sorrows. See Exodus 3 :7. So, remembering his covenant with Abraham, God raised up Moses to deliver his people.” Carl H. Stevens:
And so my conjecture:
from the broad gate of affliction under task masters in Egypt, God is desiring to reveal the narrow way. He uses Moses to bring about a deliverance. God’s desire for this client nation is to reveal His very own nature, of mercy, goodness, loving kindness, long-suffering, and forgiveness.
My conclusion is to say that the narrow way is an entrance to God himself.
Much misunderstood and hidden by the hideous self government of sinful flesh in man, a true deliverance is necessary.
Beloved, the narrow way is only found as God finds us, as he did with the nation of Israel. Yes if we seek we shall find, find what? We may begin to “know as also we are known.” See first Corinthians 8:4 and Galatians 4:9 :”But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God.” 1Corinthians 13:12 helps also, “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3
No greater example of the nature of God can be seen then through the picture of the Passover lamb. In Exodus chapter 12 we find this quote, “”a lamb must be killed for every family. The blood from the lamb will be taken and put on the doorposts and on the lentil above the door.” In the land of Goshen, that terrible night came when the death Angel visited every house, killing the first born sons.
“But everywhere that the blood was on the doorposts, representing the cross, the people were safe.”
O Saints, ” do not count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing nor insult the spirit of grace, wherewith we have been sanctified, by treading it under your feet.” Hebrews 10:29
In closing, it was “precious blood” shed on Calvary 2000 years ago. “Precious because it was God’s blood in human form. See first Peter 1:19. Precious because there was life in the blood that represented God’s life being given for us. Precious because it blotted out every sin. Precious because it takes care of the unconscious mind — As it wipes away and purges the past. Hebrews 9: 14. quote by Carl H. Stevens
Friends, this precious blood, is found at my narrow way. Indeed, it cleanses us from the easily tempted inward man. — “Not just from sin but from wanting to sin. Yes this blood not only has a saving impact upon us, it also has a preventative impact upon us. His blood is continually working for us.” Stevens
