Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet

Jesus washes a person’s foot, He washes their feet. What? Dirty feet, what does it mean?

It means feet uncovered without shoes, feet touching dirt or debris. It alludes to the person’s earthly travels, both saved and unsaved men and women. It seems that we cannot help touch dirt, and accumulate it throughout our day.

God gave to Moses the law in order to bring to his attention the reality of dirty feet. That law was like a mirror of constant reminder that the feet were indeed dirty. But some men, like Paul, found a way to keep that mirror without having to relate to it. Paul said, “I was alive without the law once.” In Romans 7:9 . He was referring to a time when the law was not relevant to his life, though he owned it.

The Jews were committed the oracles of the law in Romans 3/2. However Paul, when referring to his earthly credentials , was “Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;” he found himself:

“…touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.” Philippians 3:6

Though keeping the externals of the law , it seems that Paul missed the important truth brought out by Christ at the sermon on the mount . ”  But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.’ Matthew 5:28 A thorough examination of the heart, apparently was not part of Paul’s routine. But, Jesus made men aware of deeper things, lust and anger.

In our days of lawlessness, men and women remain aloof to there dirty state. They play blameless. It is the picture of the mind defiled, much like those who seared their conscience, with a hot iron in 1Timothy 4:1

Friends, law came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches in first Timothy chapter one that the law is not made for a righteous man, instead ,we have Christ washing the disciples feet.

Yes without preparation, without explanation, Jesus begins to wash their feet 1 by 1. And when it comes to Peters turn, he objects. Funny how nobody else objected, only Peter. Jesus explains “What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” Peter still objects.” you shall never wash my feet .”

However “If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. “

Peter complied at that word.

Beloved, Jesus came to wash our feet. He came to make us clean. He proclaimed in John 15 verse 3 , “now are you clean through the word that I have spoken.” yes clean through the washing of the water of the word of God says Ephesians 2nd Corinthians tells us we have been washed . Titus 3/5 tells us that it is not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy he saves us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the spirit.

Time and time again men and women came to Jesus. The Bible tells us he healed them all. No questions asked many times. He cut through the many layers of fraud and deceit. He seemed to ignore men’s gross sins, not imputing men’s trespasses against them. He had a ministry of reconciliation. He came to reveal the Father’s heart of compassion and mercy, a distinct desire for fellowship with the souls of men.

In closing, Jesus met a man hanging on a cross.

“And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.  And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43

Friends, worship Him in the beauty of holiness. His compassions fail not –they are new every morning…love ya
