One Nation under God

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged. Proverbs 28:2.

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 11:10-11.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Proverbs 29:2.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:34

Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on Proverbs 28:2 writes; The transgressor “breaks through the limits fixed by God.” “The land that apostasies from revealed religion becomes at once the victim of party spirit, and a subject of contention to many would-be rulers…”

Lets review some terms used in old psychological circles. These sure remind us of some Biblical counterparts, though they are different. We will discuss their Biblical meanings afterwards.

From psychology we have, “the ‘daimonic’ is the urge in every being to affirm itself, assert itself, perpetuate and increase itself.” “The daimonic becomes evil when it usurps, (overthrows), the total self without regard to the integration (uniting), of that self…” “’Diabolos,’ interestingly enough, literally means to tear apart… this ‘diabolic’ is the antonym of ‘symbolic’ … which means ‘to throw together.’” “The symbolic is that which draws together, ties, integrates the individual in himself and with his group; the diabolic, in contrast, is that which disintegrates and tears apart.” Rollo May.

From the Bible in Ephesians 2:14 we have these words; “He, (Jesus), is our peace, (to join together); who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us etc.” Jesus came to bring a joining, to integrate souls, to bring together men by uniting their hearts in personal integrity, which word means “whole, entire, undiminished.”

To explain further Dr Carl Stevens spoke, “…because of the integrity of God in my life and in your life, we receive these relative absolute blessings from God. In other words, if I walk uprightly, God’s integrity blesses me, because it’s His life in me. He is blessing my life that I’ve derived (obtained from Him). And God has to bless my derived life because of His justice, because of integrity—because of the nature of His essence. He blesses people.” “Blessings are on the head of the just.”Proverbs 10.

What the heck are we trying to say? Well, when a person overruns God’s presence bringing soul-integrity, he forsakes the blessing of God which comes as “His life in us” when applied. We receive from God these Biblical aspects of integrity also; innocence, (mercy applied), uprightness (righteousness applied) and simplicity, (a single eye). We “dis-integrate” when we step over the limits of our received-integrity to pursue self-affirmation, assertion, or perpetuation if they are coming out of our lower nature’s integrity. Do you see it?

So, here is a dilemma; being “honest” to our self-life and it’s “coming out” could destroy the miracle of God’s integrity coming in and residing in us. Giving someone the shirt off your back as a manifestation of the good side of your sinful nature divides it also. Bodies given to be burned without charity are counted as nothing in 1 Corinthians 13. Or, simply put, natural integrity falls short of experiencing God’s great nature of integrity revealed inside us with its blessing.

So, the transgressor breaks through limits set by God and ignores his own vital unity. This is seen in a person who uses his “liberty” to do things which actually destroy his liberty and bring bondage; i.e. drug addiction, alcohol, promiscuity, etc. If this transgressor is a government, party-division inflicts itself automatically, because only The Spirit can unify. Yes, the Mosaic law can unify, but is weak since it cannot be followed perfectly. Since it cannot be, to try often creates prideful Pharisees.

Some sincere leaders recognize the need for unity, but try to accomplish it through push-self-forward natural integrity. Maybe they become so obsessed with their leadership that they take on narcissistic tendencies. They take on the role of God, but without God, and God sets Himself in battle array against this type, in 1 Peter 5:5.

Lastly, “The love of Christ constrains us.” “Constrain” means: holds us in, holds us together, in 2 Corinthians 5:14. What a benefit! “Because we thus judge, that if one died for all then we are all dead.” The word “symbol” teaches “to throw together” and “any mental process that represents some feature of external reality.”

In simplicity, His love, reflected in our heart through our focus on Calvary’s cross, unifies our soul. Kept, it accrues a permanent blessing. Friends, that blessing maketh rich and there is no sorrow in it.

Lord give us leaders who know of His love, are constrained by it, and can guide us in a straight path. When a person is humble, that person becomes the recipient and a partaker of God’s nature through the promises. God, in a relative situation, in an absolute way, has to bless that one who is filled with the Spirit. “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted.” “The integrity of the upright shall guide him” in Proverbs 11:3. Many on their knees can bring a blessing. Otherwise we stagger. Love ya.
