Matthew 26:39 reveals the prayer of Our Savior, ” And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying,
O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
“The holy will of God was never wrought by any person other than Christ.”
Hebrews 10:7 repeats the truth of Christ, “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. “
Jesus performed the Father’s will and by it purchased our salvation. As Christians we never perform to procure any reward or special favor. As for man’s vain attempts to save himself, “The sanctity of the Law is never preserved by those who attempt to keep it. The effort of man has universally failed.”‘ Quotes by Chafer, “Grace.”
However, Romans 12 shows us how we “prove” the will of God. “… to be enabled to discern, approve, and know, not merely speculatively, but experimentally and practically, and by sure trial.” Benson
We pray “Thy will be done.” …on earth as it is in heaven.”

To clarify more the difference, Chafer continues, “Israel under Judaism went to perform a sacrifice, we go out to proclaim a sacrifice. ” ” the saved do not abide in divine fellowship because they seek or merit the light, they are instructed to “walk in the light,’ which is all theirs through riches of grace.” Grace is not to secure the favor of God, –it is rather a matter of consistent action in view of such Divine grace.”
1Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
We are “to the praise of the glory of His grace.” Ephesians 1:6
Beloved, in contrast, Spurgeon speaks of God’s will for His Son which was ultimately for us.
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:44
His pores sent forth great drops of blood which fell to the ground. This proves how tremendous must have been the weight of sin when it was to able to crush the Savior so that He distilled great drops of blood. This demonstrates the mighty power of His love.” Spurgeon

Spurgeon speaks summarily, “Do we not perceive how intense must have been the wrestling through which He passed, and will we not hear its voice to us?”
Friends, “not my will but thine be done” has new meaning. Honey came from a rock, and honey was found in the carcass of a lion. Judges (Samson) We are told to eat it — wisdom and reward come from it’s ingestion. Proverbs 24: 13 The sweet savor of the offering of Christ brings joy to man’s nostrils.
In closing, a man was greatly motivated by the love of it all. He began a project of translating the Bible into another tongue. Primitive equipment and physical disability held the project back. But persistent in love he was. He ended up stamping out the completion with two fingers, one on each hand because of an accident which left him such. O the power of this great love. The love of Christ, constrains us,
because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2Corinthians 5:14-15
